Learn More A Note to Our Community Regarding Coronavirus and COVID-19 Learn More Happening at the Globe and our Community A NOTE TO OUR COMMUNITY September 2, 2020 Today marks 100 days since the murder of George Floyd. This senseless event has sparked a racial reckoning in America and like institutions in many fields, The Old Globe is actively listening. As we seek to respond to this moment, The Globe has sought meaningful conversation and collaboration with the communities we serve. What we’re hearing and learning in these conversations is helping us conceptualize our Social Justice Action Plan. To date, we have: Met with the San Diego Black Artists Collective to hear how the Globe can be more responsive to the needs of local BIPOC communities; Convened a Community Advisory Committee drawn from an intersection of community partners, artists, Globe staff and Globe Board members to acknowledge, attend, and address past and present actions, and vet a roadmap for the future; Added to what we’ve learned from these groups by soliciting ideas from Globe staff and Affinity Groups in an open-sourced, wide-ranging process; Conducted this process alongside a discussion and analysis of the “We See You White American Theatre” documents. Alongside the above, we have retained a San Diego company, (R)EVOLVE Consulting, to institute comprehensive EDIA training across staff and board. Our Social Justice Action Plan will shape the future of the Globe as an anti-racist organization. We look forward to sharing it, and holding ourselves publicly accountable to it, later this month.
